PALO, Leyte – The National High School’s seven-student team bagged recently the second place trophy in Best in TV News Broadcast in the National Festival of Talents 2013.
The group was composed of Kim D. Limosnero, Florderiza S. Honorio, Irish S. Yongque, Laira A. Millar, Sherly P. Noveda, Bianca P. Montilla, Krizzia Ariane F. Espina, and coach/adviser Cynthia Agner.
The team, which represented Leyte Division and Eastern Visayas, garnered five awards of the six contest categories in TV news broadcasting during the recently concluded DepEd-sponsored skills exhibition/competition held in Tacloban.
Awardees in individual category were Irish S. Yongque (1st place-Best Reporter) and Florderiza S. Honorio (3rd place-Best Anchor).
In group category, the team won the 2nd place-Best Technical Application, 3rd place-Best Infomercial, and the second-place trophy of the much coveted awards in Best in TV News Broadcast.
“That was so unexpected but a great experience though. We proved that nothing is impossible if you’ll keep God in your hearts and minds. Prayer was our greatest weapon all throughout the competition, and we just did our best for alma mater” said Honorio, an outgoing campus journalist.
“Nothing is impossible if you are persistent to achieve your dreams and faithful to the Lord,” added Limosnero in an interview with Leyte Samar Daily Express.
Michael A. Regis, school principal, commended the group for bringing pride to the school.
The group also acknowledged the support and encouragement of Deolita Diaz, Leyte division-Education program supervisor in English, and other division officials during the competition amid limited funds and broadcasting equipment.
Aside from piloting special journalism program in Eastern Visayas, Palo National High School is also pioneering special program in sports and the senior high school program under the new K to 12 education curriculum of the Department of Education.
