Back to the open field

John Dave Sanchez, 16, loves to play football.

His passion for the sports led him to meet fellow football enthusiasts in their barangay. Eventually, he became part of the football club Palo West FC together with his friends who are mostly students in Palo National High School.

“We are always practicing to develop our skills. Playing football is also a big help for us so we’ll not go into vices,” Sanchez says while thanking their head coach Wilberto Sugbo.

With the new uniforms and shoes from different sponsors, particularly after the 2013 super typhoon Yolanda, Sanchez and his team are regularly playing at the school ground.

He said that he found hope in playing football, especially after the storm.

Sanchez’s team members include Joseph Ibanez, Jessie James Rosales, Jonel Basas, John Paul Olguera, Alvin Roca, Jordan Basas, Mark Rey Mirasol, Ansbert Baldesco, and Jimcy Lu-ay.

He said they also welcome new members in their team.

“I am happy and proud of my team,” Sanzhez said while recalling the time when they joined in various tournaments held in the province and in Tacloban city.

Aside from his ambition to become a professional football player, Sanchez said he is looking forward to finishing his studies.
