TACLOBAN CITY– Education officials in Leyte have intensified the training of teachers on the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) inside their classrooms in connection with the full implementation of K to 12 (kindergarten and 12 years of basic education) curriculum.

“Integration of technology is important in today’s learning environment. You have to invest in ICT to innovate your teaching,” Mario Rodgie Sombilon, Leyte assistant schools division superintendent, told the participants in the recently-held workshop on Technology Integration in Education (TIEd) in Palo, Leyte.

During the training, more than 200 Grade 2 and 8 teachers were taught to develop “contextualized instructional materials” using ICT.

Other technology-based topics introduced include audacity exploration with e-comics, windows movie maker, jigsaw puzzle maker, lesson plan contextualization with ICT integration, wordle: beautiful word clouds, crafting interactive lessons in one note, scavenger hunt, and creating blogs.

Ernani Fernandez, an ICT teacher from Palo National High School who is also one of this year’s awardees for outstanding educators by the Metrobank Foundation, urged the participants to maximize the use of ICT in their classroom instructions.

“Students will be more motivated and responsive if our teaching is incorporated with technology. Indeed, this will help them acquire and develop skills needed in the 21st century education,” said Fernandez, who is also TIEd’s training speaker.

The ICT training of teachers throughout Leyte division is expected to finish this September. PNA
